What is Messy Church (MC)?
It is a multi-generational, informal and FUN approach to developing a relationship with God! MC generally takes place on the SECOND SATURDAY of every month. Have FUN learning Adventures with God through Games, Food, Crafts, Music and more!
Messy Church takes place right here at Calvary UMC in Fellowship Hall. Geared to ALL AGES! Our program runs from 4:30 to 6:30 PM including dinner. Please RSVP to the church office (201-384-3630 or calvary185@verizon.net so we are certain to have enough food and supplies.
At Messy Church, we utilize crafts, games, science and music to learn about God and how biblical teachings can apply to our lives. We’ve found that adults love this active learning as much as kids!
Messy Church begins with a period of optional engagement in thematic activities; only some of them are “messy”! Next, we have a story, video or music that reinforces our Bible-based theme. A yummy dinner is served so that we can get to know each other around an informal meal. We end the evening with games and a circle prayer.
“We’ve seen the wild popularity of Messy Churches” around the world for families who are seeking a spiritual connection with God, but may not wish to enter into a traditional church,” explained Calvary’s Pastor, the Rev. Elaine Wing. She added, “We want to provide a worship experience for families with different needs and desires. The philosophy of Messy Church is aligned with Calvary UMC: both are community based churches where God’s love comes first.”
MC is open to persons of all ages and backgrounds. A love offering basket is on the table, but a donation is not required. We do appreciate an RSVP a couple of days in advance, but “WALK-INS” are welcome!
We hope to see you soon!

What FUN we have at Messy Church!! Please take a moment to enjoy the short power point made from the session. We had a small turnout but it sure was great!
Messy Church is an alternative to traditional worship, or an additional way of learning about God's love and place in your lives. While it is geared to children, the evening includes an infectious spirit of fun for all ages! It is GREAT FAMILY or GRANDPARENT - GRANDCHILD TIME!!!
Our thanks to Lota Gerona and Markie for creating this power point below! Here's the online link:
